Childrens' Ministry

The Prayer of Jabez and the Heart of Children’s Ministry

“Oh, that You would bless me indeed…”

The Lord blessed Jabez with hundreds of children, ages 0 to 12, so that he could shepherd them and lead them to the Lord. Jabez was faithful to instruct, disciple, and raise them into young prayers who served their God. He believed that the Lord wanted to use children—right now, while they were still young—to minister to others and lead them to Him.

And the children did just that! As others saw Jabez’s faithfulness, they came alongside him to reach more children. His example inspired many, and the children’s ministry continued to grow.

“And enlarge my territory…”

The Lord brought children from the streets—those who had never heard His name or known His Word. Jabez reached out to them, teaching and shepherding them with the help of his young prayers.

Then the Lord sent Jabez across the sea to minister in faraway lands, where many children came to know their heavenly Father. The Lord connected Jabez with other children’s pastors so they could encourage one another. Everywhere Jabez traveled, people saw his love for ministry and his commitment to the little ones. Many joined him in this work, learning from his example so that the ministry could continue and grow.

“That Your hand would be upon me…”

Through every challenge, the Lord was with Jabez. When others were too busy, when the budget was small, when recognition was scarce—the Lord was there. Even when Jabez faced criticism, he kept his eyes on his heavenly Father and continued faithfully in his calling.

Others noticed his perseverance and were inspired by his unwavering focus on God.

“And that You would keep me from evil…”

The Lord protected Jabez from evil and temptation. When Satan tried to stir up complaints or discouragement, God kept Jabez steadfast. He shielded him from criticism and petty disputes so that Jabez could stay focused on his mission.

Those around him saw that Jabez looked to the Lord rather than to distractions, and his faith strengthened theirs.

“So that I may not cause pain…”

Because Jabez kept his eyes on the Lord, he gave thanks in all things. He learned to look past flaws and limitations, relying solely on his Father in Heaven for everything needed to fulfill his calling.

And so, God granted what he requested. Jabez was blessed beyond measure—with a ministry that grew, reached others, and inspired many to join him. His work extended to faraway countries, and countless children came to know their heavenly Father.

The Model for Greater Works Children’s Ministries

Greater Works believes that our children’s pastor should model after Jabez.

Like Jabez, he encourages others who are called to minister to children. Many of the children Jabez discipled grew up to continue in ministry themselves. A new generation of children’s ministers and missionaries was born—those who remembered the prayer of Jabez and prayed it daily.

Because of their faithfulness, their ministries flourished, and more children were reached for the Father. Jabez’s focus shifted from his own limited perspective to God’s limitless one. As others joined him, the excitement spread to the four corners of the earth, and every child came to know their heavenly Father.

Led by Secretary Yesenia Santos, our children’s ministry is dedicated to nurturing the next generation of believers. We focus on building a strong foundation through:

  • Biblical Fundamentals: Teaching the core truths of Scripture in an engaging way.

  • Personal Relationship with God: Encouraging children to know Christ personally.

  • Spiritual Growth: Creating a safe, joyful environment where young hearts can grow in faith and character.
